Advice To Keep Your Door Working

For a Wooden Door

  • Ensure that your door fits the frame without rubbing
  • Oil the hinges, handle and nightlatch with a light oil twice a year
  • Don’t oil the mortice lock they work better dry
  • If you need to jiggle the key to make it work its time to change the lock, they don’t last forever

For UPVC and Composite Doors

  • Oil the hinges and lcoking points with a light oil
  • If the handle is difficult to lift up or the key difficult to turn - try to lift handle and lock it with the door open
  • Easier to lift handle and turn key - the door is out of alignment have it seen to before the problem gets worse and mechanism fails
  • No difference - there is a problem in the operating mechanism, be careful your door may fail without warning. Time to get things sorted
